Dr. Elizabeth Coe

Elisabeth Coe (Betsy) Ph.D. has been an educator for over 50 years and Montessori educator for over 45 years. She has American Montessori Society Early Childhood, Elementary I/II, Secondary I/II, and Administrators credentials. She is the creator of the middle and high school programs at School of the Woods in Houston, Texas, and serves as principal. Betsy is the executive director of the Houston Montessori Teacher Education Center, which educates Montessori teachers at all levels, birth through 18 years of age and head of schools. She is a long time board member of the American Montessori Society and past president. She holds various leadership positions in AMS, especially in teacher education.

Betsy is author of articles and chapters and is an international consultant and speaker traveling on a weekly basis to Montessori schools throughout the United States and the world including Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. She also is a well-known speaker at Montessori conferences, United Nations, Hague Appeal for Peace, Montessori Model United Nations, and events with a focus on world peace and adolescents. She was honored as the AMS 2008 Living Legacy and MACTE 2016 Wisdom of the Elders award. Her two daughters are both Montessori secondary teachers in public and independent schools and her seven grandchildren attend/attended Montessori schools from infant & toddler through high school.
