Admin Credential

AMS Administrator's Credential – The Course For Leading Montessori Schools

Thank you for your interest in the Administrator Course for School Leaders program at the Houston Montessori Center.  Our administrator course began in June, 2006 and has been serving school leaders ever since. The course was born from the thought that HMC was doing a great job of preparing teachers on all levels but for Montessori schools to be effective, school leaders need to be able to lead the Montessori way. Leaders need to know and understand Montessori philosophy to guarantee that Montessori principles are embedded throughout all the operations of the school, ensuring proper support of the adults and the children. Since its inception in 2006, more than 200 school leaders have earned their Administrator’s credentials influencing schools across the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, and more.

Beth Bonnette is the administrator-level coordinator, and she is dedicated to ensuring that school leaders have the knowledge and tools to advocate for the Montessori curriculum and philosophy in both the public and private sectors.  She represents both the private and public sector and is supported by the Administrator faculty who each have decades of experience as teacher educators and school leaders.

The instruction at the Houston Montessori Center provides thorough and high-quality education in the Montessori method for adults, who will then lead Montessori schools. The academic phase includes lectures, dialogue, small group projects, presentations, seminars, and an action research project over a minimum period of 18 Months. When you receive a credential issued by the American Montessori Society (AMS), you will be able to meet the competencies in knowledge, philosophy, and leading with equity.

When you enter the Administrator program, you become part of a cohort of people who you will be working with for the duration of the program. There are also intentional experiences to bridge connections with cohort groups before and after yours, expanding your network further. These networks create support systems for you as a leader, providing valuable interactions and ongoing opportunities for collaboration and encouragement among peers that last far beyond your time in the program. Should you ever seek a refresher after you receive your credential, you are always welcome to return to HMC free of charge.

The Administrator course for School Leaders program at HMC remains rich and dynamic: dynamic because it is constantly being refined based on current research, rich because over the years HMC has created an effective curriculum that is shared with each new cohort, enabling learners to build upon vetted practices to create their curriculum to best serve the needs of their students. We hope you will consider the long-standing reputation of HMC's Administrator program if you are interested in pursuing a Montessori Administrator credential.

We would love to have you join our HMC family!
